Driver
Reports to: Paver Foreman or Superintendent
Job Function: Responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
- Responsible for the safe operation of all vehicles as per State and Federal regulations. Must maintain daily inspections and reports as per Federal regulations. Responsible for the daily maintenance of vehicles and reporting any mechanical problems to the supervisor. Performs driving duties in a safe and professional manner while providing full support to the crew by performing necessary labor as directed by the crew.
Essential Functions:
- Must be willing to submit to, and pass, a pre-employment, as well as, random drug testing as set forth by Sullivan Paving Co., Inc. drug testing policies.
- Accountable for the safe and responsible operation of all Sullivan Paving Co., Inc vehicles and equipment including the safe loading, unloading, and binding of equipment on trailers, as well as, safe towing operations.
- Must maintain all daily inspections and reports.
- Responsible for the daily maintenance of vehicles, trailers, and machinery: i.e checking and changing light bulbs, headlights, minor repairs as needed, and/or reporting all mechanical problems to the proper supervisor.
- Responsible for cleaning the vehicle thoroughly on a daily and weekly basis, inside and out.
- Must be willing to provide support as needed to crews ensuring maximum use of truck throughout the day.
- Must be willing to wheel barrow material and do other labor when instructed and must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
Qualifications, skills, and abilities:
- Must have valid Commercial Driver’s License and physical as required by Federal regulations.
- Able to communicate and work well with others.
- Must be a team player.

Equipment Operator
Reports to: Superintendent
Job Function: Responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
- Able to perform all the duties of a laborer in addition to the safe operation of power equipment. Which may include, but is not limited to, Pavers, Loaders, Graders, Rollers, or any other power operated machinery as deemed appropriate by Sullivan Paving Co., Inc. This includes the safe operation, daily inspections, cleaning inside and out, and preventative maintenance of equipment, as well as, reporting any mechanical problems to the supervisor.
Essential Functions:
- Must operate machinery in a safe and responsible manner to complete the assigned job in a timely manner.
- Responsible for daily maintenance of the equipment and must report any mechanical issues to their immediate supervisor.
- Responsible for the supervision of any laborer on the job.
- Maintain record keeping with regards to man hours, material(s) used on the jobsite, as well as other notations made in the field in regards to that specific site (if applicable).
Qualifications, skills, and abilities:
- Able to work in a team setting as well as independently, following verbal and written instructions, as well as, being capable of making minor decisions independently.
- Able to communicate and work with customers, as well as, other employees effectively and professionally.
- Must be a team player.
- CDL, Class A drivers license is desirable.

Finish Crew Leader
Reports to: Paving Foreman
Job Function: Responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
- Responsible for safe and effective operation of his crew, as well as, on site customer contact when the Paving Foreman is not present. Responsible for keeping total control of the job and must have a working knowledge of all contracts and details when Paving Foreman is not onsite.
Essential Functions:
- Must work closely with the Paving Foreman in directing the efforts of tall crew members to achieve a high quality, safe, effective and timely completed job.
- Responsible for checking the job site after completion to ensure that the site is clean, all tools have been picked up and put away, hoses are clean and wrapped up, doors are closed, no standing water in garage, and that the area is swept.
- Responsible for making sure there are no roller lines on the new driveway surface, there is proper runoff, and that that driveway is roped off and a sign is put up at completion.
- Responsible for daily maintenance of the rollers, compactors, trucks (greased, etc).
Qualifications, skills, and abilities:
- Must have excellent and effective communication skills.
- Able to work in a team setting, as well as, independently, following verbal and written instructions effectively.
- Capable and comfortable making quick decisions independently.
- Required to have a valid driver’s license.

Laborers
Laborers are broken down into 3 classes based on experience and availability.
Reports to: Pave Foreman
Class 1:
Job Function: Responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
- No experience, but a willingness to learn. Performs a variety of duties including shoveling, tamping, sweeping, and any other duty as determined by Sullivan Paving Co., Inc.
Class 2:
Job Function: Responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
- Some experience and a willingness to learn. Able to perform all duties of Class 1 laborer without further instruction, as well as, compact, use of asphalt shoes, and read a level.
Class 3:
Job Function: Responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
- Experienced laborer willing to learn. Able to perform all the duties of Class 1 and Class 2 laborer, as well as, the ability to use a laser and finish rake. Must be able to read a contract drawing, understanding basic driveway layout and preparation fundamentals, as well as, pitch (water run off) and have knowledge of base materials. Must have willingness to learn fundamental rolling techniques, along preparation fundamentals.
Qualifications, skills, and abilities:
- Must be physically able to perform manual labor.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Must have a willingness to learn.
- Must be a team player.

Paving Crew Leader
Reports to: Paving Foreman or Superintendent
Job Function: Responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
- Responsible for the safe and effective operation of his crew. Maintain daily job records such as man hours, materials used, and any specific notation pertaining to that particular job (if applicable). Responsible for maintaining total control of job site, including equipment, manpower, and materials. Must have working knowledge and understanding of all contracts and site-specific details (if applicable).
Essential Functions:
- Works alongside the Finish Crew Leader in directing the efforts of each crew member to achieve a high quality, safe, effective, and timely completed job.
- Must schedule manpower, equipment, and material for each job, as well as, maintain accurate record keeping of man hours, materials, and any specific notations (if applicable) for each job.
- Responsible to maintain the paving machine, rollers, and saw, which includes cleaning the paver every two (2) weeks, greasing weekly, and adjusting as needed, as well as, all other necessary maintenance.
- Responsible for checking the job site after completion to ensure that the job site is clean and no tools are left behind.
Qualifications, skills, and abilities:
- Must have excellent and efficient communication skills.
- Must be able to work in a team setting, as well as, independently, following verbal and written instructions. Must be capable of making quick decisions independently.
- Must have a valid Class A driver’s license and a general knowledge of all paving areas.
- Must be a team player.

Paving Foreman
Reports to: Superintendent
Job Function: Responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
- Responsible for the safe and effective operation of his crew. Maintain daily job records such as hours worked, materials used, as well as specific notations (if applicable), as well as, maintaining professional on-site contact with customers. Responsible in maintaining total control of the job site, including equipment, manpower, and materials. Must have working knowledge of reading all contracts and details.
Essential Functions:
- Works alongside the Finish Crew Leader with directing the efforts of each crew member to achieve a high quality, safe, effective and timely job completion.
- Must schedule manpower, equipment, and material for each job, as well as, maintain accurate record keeping for each job such as hours worked, materials used, and any specific notations pertaining to each jobsite (if applicable).
Qualifications, skills, and abilities:
- Must have excellent communication skills.
- Must be able to work in a team setting, as well as independently, following verbal and written instructions, as well as, being capable and comfortable making decisions quickly and independently.
- Prefer a valid Class A drivers license and a general knowledge of all paving areas.

Secondary Operator
Reports to: Paving Foreman
Job Function: Responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
- Responsible for running the paver with the Crew Leader and for the support and assistance of the Crew Leader on the jobsite. Performs a variety of duties as determined by the Crew Leader.
Essential Functions:
- Performing a variety of duties includes shoveling, raking, tamping, rolling, sweeping, and any other duties determined by the crew leaders.
- Responsible for unloading the paver and bringing it into the driveway and parking it out of the way.
- Removing all tools from the machine, ensuring the machine is working freely, efficiently, and oiled down. Heat is set on 15psi and wheelbarrows are oiled.
- Start the layout of the driveway until additional help is available to finish the layout.
- Responsible for their edge of the drive, to help where needed at the end of the driveway. Start knocking down the pile left by the paver and finishing the apron.
Qualifications, skills, and abilities:
- Must be physically able to perform manual labor and use any and all hand tools.
- Able to tamp, rake, read a level, shovel, and roll.
- Must have general knowledge for all paving areas.
- Able to work in a team setting as well as independently, following verbal and written instructions with minimal supervision at times.
- Must be a team player and able to effectively communicate with other employees and homeowners.
